I have a succulent I bought last year that has been growing in odd proportions. It was bought at the end of fall and has been sitting in front of a well-lit sliding glass window where I have a number of other cacti and succulents sitting. New growth on this plant has been in odd proportions relative to existing growth. I presume this is a sign of elongation, though I am not sure why this plant is having trouble while none of the other cacti or succulents I have stationed near it is. Would it be safe/useful to clip off the elongated pieces? I am not sure what else to do about providing more light other than possibly placing the plant outdoors during summer. I live in the Midatlantic region, so this would only be an option from mid-May until mid-September. Any thoughts or help would be welcomed.

That's pretty normal for various Rhipsalis. An occasional stem really "goes for it", looking for a new place to make some roots. You can cut them anywhere & stick the cut end back into the soil.

Can your plant "see" the sun for hours a day (no curtain or blinds in the way)?

Thanks both. Yes, the plant has a front and center view of the window and gets a lot of sun, especially in the afternoon. I now see that most of the long "arms" have one or two adventitious roots on the bottom, which suggests that purpleinopp may be correct in asserting that the plant is looking to root itself in additional locations.
