This weed is popping up all over my garden. it has extremely deep roots. It tends to never really flower because ants infest the flowerhead early on. I'm starting to wonder if it's really a weed or maybe a garden flower that ants are responsible for spreading all over the yard as they carry the seeds with them.

Yes, this popped up last year in my yard. Only in shady mulched areas. It is attempting to take over. Round up does not work. Ninety five percent of time I cannot get the roots. My plan is to keep ripping out what I can and hope to starve it out. It loves to hide in my toad lilies. At quick glance they look similar.

If you Google it you will see it is becoming a problem in certain areas. There have been several threads about it on this site.
