I am having problems with some of my irises in an older bed. They just fall flat on the ground as pictured. I have just discarded some of the older ones but some I want to save. There is no odor, no mustard seeds or white fibers, no mushiness at all. Some have increases coming on so the rhizome is still viable. I am in a quandry as to how to treat this. Do I use fungicide or treat for bacteria with bleach? I want to preserve the area for irises but not sure what is in there. I have plenty of bleach and Comet and also have copper fungicide as well as Daconil. We have had lots of hard rain and it is an area where water just pours off of the roof but other areas with the same conditions are not affected. We have also had lots of hot weather, 80-90 degrees.
Any suggestions? I know there will be varying opinions. I have received many already.

Is it too dry? Are cats making a bed there there at night? Any deer prints around them?

Jane,I have had a few flop over because of heavy rains. We had a week of heavier rains here a few weeks ago. Some iris seem to take all kinds of conditions and others don't.
As Daisy mentioned, could something be sleeping at night in that area?
If they are leaning from rain or have fungal infection and fans are weaker from it, ,some animal sleeping there could knock them on the ground.
Because of a period of rain,I am now getting fungal infection and yellowing leaves.Something I didn't have earlier this year.

Yes, lots of rain and heavy downpours lately. There are cats and rabbits in the area but mostly weather related I think. I will try a fungal spray and they could use it anyway for leaf spot. It may not help but can't hurt. Confused

This spring my clump of Dusky Challenger looked suddenly like something had made a bed of it overnight. All the leaves were mashed down, one fan entirely broken off. Next to that, something had nipped off part of the monkshood, and spat it out. And next to that some daylily leaves had also been nipped off and spat out. I suspect deer did it. Or maybe a groundhog. But I think that deer more often sample things and spit them out. We also have some feral cats that laze around in that area, but obviously they aren't herbivores. I am wondering if a fawn or deer bedded down there overnight and also sampled the plants.
