Will irises cross pollinate changing the color of lighter color flowers. I ask because I had a large clump of white ruffled iris that I broke up & replanted. The following year when the transplants bloomed they were mostly purple instead of the ruffled white. This either happened, or I somehow mixed purple with the white. I just don't know. I live in Evans Colorado. Thank you, Cruz

I'm sure irises do cross pollinate but it would be the plants grown from the seeds the cross pollination produced that would be a different color, not the current plants.

Iris can produce seed pods when you are not looking; or were irises planted in the bed before? the seeds could be lying dorment & pop up when conditions are ripe.

Most likely the purples already there and the white more vigorous. When you moved the white it allowed the purple more nutrients and it bloomed
