Hello. I am in southern California, zone 10b. My western redbud is dropping leaves and doesn't look happy. What are the symptoms of overwatering a western redbud? What are the symptoms of underwatering it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I don't think you can overwater a redbud. Underwater yes.

Western Redbuds are low water need plants once established. How long has your tree been in the ground?

This has been a really hot year - it may be you are trying to grow it too far out of its zone and its complaining. Also, they are understory trees. That means it will do best growing under larger trees or in the shade of your house.

Thank you. The tree is about seven years old. It didn't get enough sun in its original spot. It was transplanted to a sunny location about one or two years ago.
The tree is about seven feet tall and bloomed this past spring. Leaves are yellowing and dropping. Wonder if our damn gopher got it.
