I have this plant which was given to me as a banana plant but it doesn't look like anything I've found on the internet.
The flowers are about 150mm (6 inches) and the leaves grow to about 300mm (1 foot).

Banana, Canna, Muso, ensete? I've checked them all but the flowers don't match.

Be grateful for any help on this one.

It is a Canna. It's one with the smaller, species-type flowers.

OK, Thanks Danita. You pointed me in the right direction.
Now I have found a variety that fits my plant - Canna 'Musifolia'.

I'll settle on that.

I couldn't say for sure. 'Flambé' is similar-looking. However, it could also be a seedling with no cultivar name.

Given that you c l e a r l y misheard what the person who gave it to you said it was - it must be Canna-na.

Not a good pun but it's the best I have.

As far as the therapy goes, were you looking for actual qualifications or are you just lounging there, waiting to spill your guts?

Either way, I agree, your plant is a beautiful Canna!

I agree, a variety of Canna; it reminds me of the Canna (Canna x generalis 'Musaefolia Rubra') that I used to have.

Oh, and regarding "therapy" .... playing in the dirt is good therapy.

Unless your playing in the dirt is pulling a million tiny weeds. Then its just frustrating.
