Hi everybody! I'm new to the NGA and am finding this association to be so much fun. The interaction and sharing of pictures, and the camaraderie is really great! I began watching the Southeastern gardening forum and thought I would poke my nose in here too. My gardening right now is focusing on rebuilding my garden from 21 years ago. I lost azaleas, roses, and a snowball bush, simply due to inattention and neglect (confession is good for the soul right?). Amazingly enough, 5 of my Azaleas, and 5 of my clematis vines have survived. My Irises also survived and this year I tried my hand at digging them up and dividing them and replanting. Replanting roses, azaleas, and taking better care of all of my garden than ever before. I have learned so much from YouTube videos about gardening generally, and also specific plants. Spent a lot of time in the spring digging out and killing off English ivy that has been taking over my yard for years!

Hello Welcome! John!
I am currently trying to make sense of 30 years of filling this yard with what ever goodies came my way via swaps.. trended towards native with a vegetable garden.
Cleaning out ivy and thinning iris are two very satisfying projects!
Plant it and they will come.

Losing Viburnum sp. for any reason is a high crime and misdemeanor. Sincere contrition and an effort to change your ways is in order.

Azaleas and Clematis are fine, if you like run-of-the-mill stuff. Aspire to greatness. You can never have too many Viburnum...

Thought I'd post here to make sure both Johns knew there's a plant swap at Aspenhill on May 20. Coming right up! I know it's a drive, but maybe it could be a weekend gettaway...

Thanks for the heads up, Critter, but I'm going to have to miss that one. Helping care for 91.5 year old mom who broke her hip, and it's going to be a while recuperating.

Give my best to the crew - it's been too long since I've gotten to visit with you all.

Group hug to you and your mom!

We lost 3 out of 4 parents within a year in 2021/2022, after a couple of years with a bunch of medical crises. If you need any caregiving tips (best bedpads, mobility aids, etc), just drop me a note. Been there, done that!

Mom (MIL) will be 90 in August, and she's doing fine in her assisted living apartment. Sure helps to have her 10 mintues down the road. I about wore a groove in the turnpike going back & forth between Frederick & Pittsburgh, where my parents lived.
