The first season wasn't at fault we had just moved to the new place with a few rhizomes but mostly seeds. Well the seedlings took off and did amazing the following spring except all the early season storms cut their bloom cycle short.
I do have some irises now that I ordered last year and I'm super excited for next year because I feel like I've been without blooms for two years! When I lived in Washington I'd visit nurseries and parks to help feed my addiction for flowers. But where I live now there aren't botanical parks or nearby gardens.
I'm a bit surprised the garden clubs that once existed here have all died out a generation ago. It's a bit disappointing to not have a rose or iris/ garden group to belong too and learn from. I wanted to become a rose and iris judge but it just seems pointless here. People have suggested start your own club and I did a small one online for roses but it's not the same as being able to get together and do stuff like this with others. There's a lot I'd like to learn.
This year has been a little disheartening and quite a bit of a learning curve. I tend to plant my flowers and fruit and veg together but I had to be gone for two weeks for a family emergency and the crazy Bermuda grass just took over everything when I came back. I've looked at my flowerbeds and decided to let this season go. Keep the potted plants watered, harvest the corn which is doing amazingly and wait till these 100 degree days cool a bit heading into fall. I've potted up a few plants in the evenings and have decided to look forward to next season when I will get a jump one things and make a few alterations in my garden designs like moving keeping my dwarf iris potted and irises away from the strawberries and blueberries so I can treat the grass. We'll I'm not quite going to start over but start again.
