I purchased & received 2 'Blue Moon' bush roses the start of July and they've now been planted about a month. One is in a pot and the other is in-ground. Both have set their first few blooms this week but both bushes are producing the color below and not the typical bluish-lavender I got on my bush down on the Texas Gulf Coast years ago. Also the blooms are all very small. Neither characteristic is typical of my experience with 'Blue Moon'. Is it JUST because the bushes are so young? I sure hope the vendor didn't send the wrong rose. First photo is the potted specimen; second pic is the one in the ground.

My Blue Moon roses look exactly like yours. They are not mislabeled. They should be called "Purple Moon."

That's about normal for most blue roses. You have to have the right soil to get the blue/lavender tones to really pop.

@Amanda, I think you must be right about the soil's effect on color. I inever knew soil impacted rose color, althoug I know it does other plants' bloom colors. Silly me. My soil when I lived in Texas city was acidic. Ours here in Temple is VERY alkaline, because Temple is the highest point along the Edwards Limestone Plateau running the entire length of the state. Guess they are going to need lots of regular acid-lover fertilizer applied if I want the bluish lavender blooms I had on this cultivar down on the SE coast of Texas.

Blues are purples are colors that thrive here in most plants, limestone base here also, but in roses they will always be pink for me. Hydrangeas don't count because I knew about those early on and stuck with white. Hilarious!

You may already know about this, but Espoma has a soil acidifier that I've heard works really well.
