One year, I bought a whole bunch of fancy Echinacea. The following year, Sombrero Salsa Red was the only one still alive and/or the original color. Five years on Sombrero is still alive and bright red in a garden of purple cone flowers. I've heard others complain about the same thing but have not seen an explanation. My only thought is the new cultivars are very unstable crosses.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost
