I wish I had taken a pic of Lyle's daylilies when they came. They were gorgeous but are all planted now.

To whet your appetite for spring, here are the plants that came today. Many thanks to our Michele/Tink and to Subhana Ansari for the gorgeous plants.

Do inquiring minds want to know what they are?
Lyle sent some of his precious seedlings, Ada MInkler, Guilded by Grace and tet Mystic Mariner.
Michele sent Wild Dreams, Sara Griffin Jackson, Dragonfly Dawn, Tet Impish Delight, Jelly Maker and a gift of Big Bang Theory.
Subhana sent Reggie Morgan, Citron Blues and Paradise Pattern.

Woo hoo! What a haul.

I was intrigued to see the differences in the plants from these two sources. If you look closely you will see Subhana's in the back right corner. They are full but the foliage is tall and straight while the foliage on the ones from Tink is fat and curved. Does anyone have any idea what the conditions are that would create these differences?

Having a lot of sun all winter makes for big plants. We had such a mild winter last year, that most of mine were bigger than I had ever seen them before. Of course a lot of plant food and water helps too. Having less sun makes for taller skinnier plants.

Dot, I think you've got it. Subhana is in northern CA and has hers in a hoop house while Michele is in FL and would have more sun.

Plants that are in greenhouses, under heavy shade cloth, and the such are trying to reach for more sun so they will tend to be taller and skinnier. At least this is what I have observed.
I have noticed this on the daylilies that I don't sell that are in pots that are really close together, they get huge and then there is lots and lots of foliage; they get tall and leggy trying to reach the sun because they are being shaded by their neighbors.

I was working in the garden today and noticed that many of mine look like MIcheles. They are Ev or Sev. I cut my foliage back in Jan to make sure I didn't have rust. Those are the ones that are fluffy.

Did you cut yours back MIchele?

Leslie, they were cut back when they got divided back in the fall. Other than that they haven't been cut back since.

Great time of year! After the damage from our record 6 days of 32 and below things have calmed down and now the work begins.

All I need to keep me going is a few blooms here and there, a seedling shooting up a scape, or just the thought of what’s to come....

I only have a very few coming. Ill get my first box ( one plant) today. When I saw Lyles picture yesterday, I shot outside and tried to work a bit on getting the daylily area cleaned up a tad, and a pot ready for the new arrival. I was going to try, for about the third time now, to grow my plants in the ground, but those pots of Lyles put the nix on that. I just dont have enough sun where I can put many in the ground. Not to mention the weeds and sandy soil just sucks them down, no matter how high I plant. The same thing happens in the pots, but they are easier to shore up. Even tho I have not planted my seeds, Im already getting their pots filled, so I can water all summer and get the soil packed down as much as possible.
