Long story short my Logan, my nephew's, baby was born early and had a diagnosis they were already aware of. She fought a brave fight but unfortunately passed last night just shy of a couple weeks of age. I would love to get them a plant for a memorial area in the yard. Her name was Sophia… I found a rose but can only find UK nurseries. Any suggestions or help finding this rose would be greatly appreciated!

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

I realized I didn't post what rose that was. The babies name was Sophia so I was trying to find something with her name.
'Sophia Renaissance' _ 'Sophia' is an upright, shrub rose with green leaves. It has honey scented, yellow and white flowers that bloom throughout summer.

Chantell,

So very sorry to hear of the loss.

Try https://beechwood-gardens.com/ They're in PA.

They list this rose on their site (http://plants.beechwood-garden...), but note that it is a special order and to contact them.

Oh, Chantell, my heart breaks for Logan and all your family... Crying

I checked Palatine first thing, but no luck. I do have a rose called 'Sophy's Rose', an English shrub rose, pretty sure it's a David Austin. It's tough. I bet it would survive transplanting if we waited for fall dormancy. For you, for Logan's Sophia, I'd dig it up. LMK if you'll be at the fall swap!

Chantell, I made a point of sniffing Sophy's Rose a few times recently (fall flush of blooms), and I have to say it does not have much fragrance. Sad

I ended up missing the fall swap, but that plant is nowhere near dormancy yet thanks to the crazy warm weather.

Good info to know, Jill...thank you. I will keep that in mind when ISO of again next spring - goes w/o saying I'd rather have one with fragrance. And thank you again for your sweet offer to share!!

It's not scentless, but compared to nearby roses like Gertrude Jekyll, there's not much there. And you're more than welcome. I'll recheck Palatine's list when they open for spring bare root ordering, but at present they don't have it. I "need" a few others this spring, though, including a replacement for one that was accidentally pulled by the landscaper's helper during a cleanup day. humph.

I feel your pain, my friend. I was so home-sick for my yard that I could hold off planting 'some' things this past spring/summer. My daughter-in-law had 2 gentleman come out today to clear and mulch. I had prepared the side fence line....having planted the shrubs (I'll post in a little bit) and marking with red-tipped sticks but had no idea they were doing the front flower beds as well today. I said - 'that's all plants that I put there except the clover (which I let grow but was fine at this point having it pulled). So the clover can go and the mint can be thinned...everything else stays.' Needless to say it just occurred to me that they pulled up not only my Datura plants but the sedum that was pulled up was supposed to be left for me to replant....sigh! The fear at this point is more that somethings missing and I won't know it LOL

Unfortunately, there always seems to be "collateral damage" when you hire help. Shoot me a reminder in spring, and I'll get sedum starts as they wake up... lost most of the names, but nearly all of mine are some shade of pink (no Autumn Joy).

Yeah....Bec said the same thing reminding me that landscapers aren't gardeners....sigh! It's all good - nothing that I had a personal connection to LOL
