Congratulations to @EdBurton on the incredible sale of Viserion on the Lily Auction! I'm sure $1835 was beyond your wildest dreams, but that is one lovely daylily and the highest bidder certainly got a beauty and a rarity. I'm afraid I can only dream of seeing it in my own garden.

Vickie on top of that Ed sold a fan to the auction runner up for 1800.00 their final bid before losing to the winner. Ed posted this on Facebook in case you are wondering how I know this nodding

Thanks, Mike. I didn't know that, but how wonderful for that second highest bidder.

And how awesome that you have seeds from it. It's a beauty, that's for sure Smiling

I have a very naive question since I am inexperienced with daylilies.
Is it because it changes color that made it so special and sought after?
If not that, what feature blew people away? I may have missed the thing everyone is seeing but I may not be seeing. I feel a bit like someone that didn't get a joke while everyone else is standing around laughing. *Blush*

I'm just guessing, but I think Ed has an amazing polychrome hybridizing program and the genetics from that program is very desirable. Since he only sells seeds, seeing one of his intros for sale is very rare and that may be one reason Viserion went so high. I don't know who the winners were, but maybe they were hybridizers who want to use Viserion in their own program.

I enjoyed reading the article below about how Ed got his start with daylilies.

OK, I think I got it now. Thanks for the article. Thank You!
It is a combination of features that may not have been combined before (polychrome + teeth).
So is something new to the daylily world, perhaps?
I can see how something fresh and new would be a big hit.
I can think of plenty great individual characteristics that would be good to combine together in daylilies. So this makes sense why it was sought after so much.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, and the final bid on Viserion was way beyond my wildest dream.
Viserion is the best daylily I grow as a plant, it was my goal come true on first bloom, I had two of the thickest scapes I've ever seen each with 5 nicely spaced branches, loaded with buds, and she set pods. I knew as soon as I saw that first bloom that someday I would register it.
I sold lots of seeds the last several years and have seen pictures, plus seeing kids here, I just registered one kid a few weeks ago (Worthy Of Distinction x Viserion) Supertooth, pink loaded with teeth.
Anyway many have asked about buying Viserion, I made a few trades, then thought I'd list a fan on the auction to make it available, my first ever plant listing. The craziness after that !!

The second highest bidder was Yenok daylilies, he sells plants and he was offered a fan at his last bid price "I talked with the high bidder first, I wanted to be fair before I sold a second fan" I know that Yenok is a plant seller and he will be listing Viserion in the future, she deserves to be out there and I think would be a fine addition as a breeder to the daylily world.

Thanks, Ed! I am so excited for you. What a thrill that must have been the year Viserion first bloomed. It has all the best of the best qualities in a daylily. And I don't think you could have chosen a better name for that gorgeous daylily Lovey dubby
