I enjoy these blooms on well-branched tall scapes. The scapes tend to lean some but it is not a deal killer for me.

Leaning here is slight. It's a richly colored flower and plant quite well budded. Increase here is modest. This seems to be a sought-after cultivar, perhaps partly because of limited increase.

Purple Tarantula is one of the most aptly named daylilies I know of! As Jamie Gossard says on his website, the only thing missing is the eight legs! What I like about Jamie's website is that he lists the parentage going back a couple of generations (if possible).

I usually see 2- to 3-way branching and 12-16 buds and the branching seems to be at the top. Given that I have it in a shaded area of my garden, I guess that is to be expected. I got it in 2015 and it is still only about 6 fans, but if it got full sun, I'm sure it would do better.

6/15/17 - not a great picture of the bloom, but at least it shows the branching and buds.

6/11/2017 - I love this picture! If the scape was upright, it was probably at registered height of 52". I'm sure it is searching for the sun. There are a few daylilies I am willing to live with a bit of leaning and Purple Tarantula is one of them:)

6/24/2020 - Purple Tarantula is on the far left and has gotten a little shorter over the years. It is still at about 4 feet.

Things I do not see on Purple Tarantula in my zone 6b garden:
1) Rebloom - not many daylilies rebloom in my garden anyway.
2) Rust - I've never seen rust on this one. Rust is not something I see in my garden in general.
3) Fading color - maybe because this gets shade, Purple Tarantula really holds it color well.

7/01/20 - Just look at those curls! Another thing I like about this one is the veining that goes to the ends of the petals.
