Thanks for hosting, Sheela & Bob!!

I'll bring a pasta dish. Haven't decided on specifics yet... I can do hot or cold. "Hot" will also be fine at room temp, but I'll bring it in something that can be plugged in. Can either keep it vegetarian or add chicken, depending on what others bring.

I'll probably be in Pittsburgh the week prior to the swap, so any requests for plants made during that week are "maybes" -- I'll try, but if it's not on my swap list as potted and ready to go, then it depends on my knee holding up!

Thanks for hosting Sheela & Bob, and I will be coming to the 2021 Fall Plant Swap. I am looking forward seeing your garden, and hopefully eating Indian food? I will be taking Indonesian snack food, called Lemper, sort of small sandwiches of shredded chicken between 2 layers made of sticky/sweet rice cooked with coconut milk, etc.

What I take to the swaps have always been my favorite food that I really like, and that I do not make very often. So it is also a treat for me. My probem is that I have so many favorites, that it is difficult for me to choose. Twice at a large party with Indonesians, I cook something not Indonesian, one was a dish From Vietnam, made with very small clams, they asked me where I bought it from, they could not believe I made it. When I like something, I always do my research to find the recipe. The other dish was Japchae, the Korean potato noodle dish. It was a farewell party for my Balinese dance teacher. I had forgotten that the wife of one of his friend was from Korea. When I saw them I thought: oh, oh, I'll be in trouble. As we were getting our food, I overheard her saying, is that Japchae???? Then later: " It is delicious" ---Boy was I happy! So I hope you and the others will also like Lemper.

I agree, it's fun to make/share a favorite treat! This time I may need to push the "easy button," since I may not be returning from Pittsburgh until the day before the swap. My dad has recently decided, or very nearly decided, to move to a senior community, so this will be a very busy trip! The olive pasta with fresh mozzarella is one of my favorite things but also "semi-homemade," since I use the olive tapenade from Wegman's.

Another "easy button" idea that's very tasty is to get some of the rotisserie chicken salad from Sam's or Costco and a couple dozen King's Hawaiian rolls. A DG friend taught me to take out the whole set of rolls, still stuck together, and cut across them horizontally so all 12 tops lift off as a single piece. Then spread the chicken salad (or ham or whatever) over all the rolls, replace the "lid," and only then cut it into individual sandwiches.

Francine, you are second to none with your love of ethnic food and the research and effort you put into getting something just right!

Rick, with the way you've been pushing yourself lately, you may not have time to make Larry's Beans. And that's OK! I know Terri has been preoccupied with her parents lately, so we will also forgive her if she doesn't make deviled eggs. Isn't it funny the way we anticipate certain treats? Donner's dumplings, Robin's brownies...

I just finished dinner and my tummy is growling!

Hello all-

So sorry that we're not going to make it to the swap. Dave's on-call that day and has to be within a 45 minute drive to the hospital. We'll miss seeing everyone and Bob and Sheela's gardens.

Hope y'all have a great time!

I am planning on doing a chicken barbeque, if that sounds good. I am open to other ideas but I can't do Indian food as I don't have that much time to cook for so many people as Indian requires several hours and I would have to do several batches if I do that. When we want Indian food, we go out as I'm actually not a good Indian cook, lol!

I could also make chili, let me know what you guys prefer. Or suggest some things and I'd be open to making it if I can.

Chicken BBQ sounds great Sheela. Keep it simple. Being the hostess is plenty of work for you. Looking forward to coming to your place for the swap! Smiling

Chicken BBQ is fiine, Sheela. I just thought you would want to show off on Indian food---but if you go out to eat it, means you really do not like cooking Indian food.---For me, if I make Indonesian curries, it takes a while too, but the problem is that I will be eating it for 2 weeks---I use the spices in packages, not from scratch, too many items to buy--- Will you have the fire on, or is it done when we arrive? ---

LMK if somebody wants to make chili (Sheela, would that be easier that chicken BBQ? definitely don't do both!), because I have way too many paper bowls that we didn't use at Mom's memorial party.

Rick, you can put me down for the olive pasta salad. I picked up olive tapenade at Wegman's yesterday. Smiling Decided I probably do need the "easy" button... if I have extra time, I can dig more plants!

I enjoy the company too, but also the potluck dishes that people made and bring to share. I cannot forget the dish that you brought, and I saw it a little late, my stomach was full, but I still manage to still enjoy it. It was so good. Your Tex-Mex dip with chips. I still think about it. Do you mind to share the recipe if you still have it----It was at Susan's house, and the dishes were spread out, and somehow I missed seeing it--to busy eating ice cream too and talking--- And Ricks Corn whatever, that was also one of my favorites---and Larry's beans-I need to get ready to go to my Acupuncturist--

I will be bringing brownies of course of some variety. Probably something else as well. Cheese spreads with crackers? Potato Salad? Buttercrunch pretzels?

I will bring Lemper, sort of small sandwiches of shredded chicken between 2 layers made of sticky/sweet rice cooked with coconut milk, etc. and maybe something else if I have time. This sandwiched sticky or sweet rice LEMPER takes a while to make, and I had never made it but I love eating them----and even longer time if I decide to wrap them in banana leaves, the traditional way in Indonesia they are presented.
