Is fragrance important to you, and what is your sweetest smelling iris? At one time I thought all irises were fragrant, but I have found that isn't true. I noticed one for sale specified as fragrant-- I think it was something like a "pallida" species? Do you have a favorite fpr fragrance? Thank You!

I think Sharp Dressed Man is about the most beautifully fragranced Iris I have. In addition to that, it's an amazing grower and performer. It will always have a place in my garden for sure.

Pallida Dalmatica.
It's a really pretty smell. Grape-y.

It's not my favorite iris but I think it's probably my favorite smell.

Second place is the lemon-candy smell of Pleasure's All Mine.

* i had a deja vu feeling as I typed this. I posted about the smell inventory my kid and I took around the irises!

Thank you, Tom and Wheezy! I found you assessment of iris fragrances that you have, Wheezy, quite fascinating. I would love to have others share and I would like to have identification of the chocalate and coffee ones! Anyone? Thank You!

This seedling of mine has a strong licorice (like the patent leather black licorice candy) smell -- is unique to this flower. No other iris in my collection (many hundreds) has this scent.

This seedling out of Cameo Dawn X Safari Sunset gave of a light scent that reminded me of lemon cheesecake.

Sun Shine In
has a light sweet scent that reminds me of a narcissus -- like those small tazetta-type jonquils with multiple blooms on a stem

Me too, I'm quite interested in the fragrances folks are experiencing from their irises!

And thank you TB ManOR--very interesting that you have one reminds you of narcissus. Not everyone appreciates that fragrance, but I enjoy it as one of the earlist of spring blooming flowers. I had no idea there were so many distinctive (if still suble) fragrances among irises. I wonder if some people are allergic to fragrant irises.
