I found some pretty decent peaches at Krogers, I'm going to go slice them. I didn't drive to Drurys this year, he's the guy for peaches here. He has at least 8 different varieties. He used to be a vendor at the farmers market, but now he just sells from his farm. He also has a small cafe that serves breakfast, it's pretty good.
Sally, I would hate to say how much I spend on my gardening every year! This year I have to add a hose to my budget, the one I have is shot.
I will be planting lettuce and spinach tomorrow, I'm going back to planting by the moon. The moon thing said to cut, rake and get rid of vines, etc, so that's what my son and I did today.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

Sally, l would like to lounge in your hammock, your place with that huge tree looks great, nice and peaceful.

Ann, that photo is gorgeous, Lovey dubby did you take it? if so where?

Lynda, great deal to get paid for entering the fair, I have never entered a fair, but I have been to lots, many years ago now, I usually liked the animals best.

I love the chickens, goats and rabbits! The goats are just darling. I wish I had room for one, but the city doesn't allow farm animals in the city limits.

Margaret, I wish I had taken it, but I found it on Internet after Googling "Free Autumn pictures". I'd have to go back awhile to find my own nice autumn pictures - probably pre-digital.

I've finished two Zoom meetings this morning. Have two cases of bells in my dining room and 7 music stands in the living room. Bell practice will be there unless the weather changes dramatically and we can use the patio. I'll have to remove one large chair and the coffee table, but we can make it work. They're doing mould abatement at the church and I had to get special permission to retrieve the bells and 4 music stands from the church last night. (Other music stands were off limits but I have some at home). There's no way they would have allowed a rehearsal this week but if they want music for the Thanksgiving service (Oct. 10), we have to start practicing tonight.

Thanks! Ours aren't always this bright and colorful. They may just turn dry and fall off this year because it's been so dry. We have a fall like these pics only occasionally; usually the colors aren't that intense. The pics were all taken on a cloudy day.

Good fall foliage can be as colorful as spring.

Not much doing here. A cool front came and its much cooler. Tell the skeeters to quit now!
Plant it and they will come.

I think our skeeters got cooked and smoked to death this summer, hardly saw any, also the blackflies, didn't miss either of them. Glare

Well, Margaret, maybe there were SOME advantages to the kind of summer you had. Not many, take the ones you can.

Lynda, love pictures. I didn't know you could get much red where you live. We are starting to see some fall colour here. The maple outside my window is tinged with red though still mostly green. Another couple of weeks and we'll likely be at peak colours.

I had handbell practice in my LR last evening. 6 people plus me. Had to move one chair and my coffee table but that was all. We only did one piece because the second piece involves a different 6 people and that gets a bit much for a home. It was raining or we would have used the patio. Crossing my fingers that we can rehearse at the church next week and start the other piece.

Ann, the Japanese maples here always put on a show, as do the dogwoods, which are native here but used in a lot of landscaped areas. In fact, one of my full tree pics shows a dogwood. And we do have a lot of native maples here. Not sugar maples, but many other varieties. The sweet gums (liquid amber) also have red leaves, along with a burgundy so dark it's almost black, plus yellow and orange, often all these colors on one tree.
Last year was an exceptional year for us, I don't know if we will have the same display this year. We are in a drought this year, and last year we weren't.

The were calling for it to be too hot to go hiking yesterday so we we went to the fruit stand we like in Fillmore. That is to far to go just to get produce but it is a nice drive and an excuse to get out. We also walked around an old cemetery up there.

Something is wrong and I can't load photos.

With all the rain we've had this month, I think the leaves may hang around extra long.

Glad to find this thread!

I've been using SparkPeople every so often for their nutritional tracker. Tracking what I'm actually eating helps me get back to balancing protein & carbs and recognizing portion sizes.

They've recently expanded, combined forces, and morphed into PeopleOne Health. I've been doing their 30 day healthy weight challenge, although it's taking me more than 30 days (read and then re-read the first 10 days). They have a lot of good articles in addition to the 30 day articles... fairly short, and so far nothing that makes me go, "yeah, riiiiight. that's not gonna happen." I'm liking the beta version of SparkCoach and looking forward to seeing where that goes. Takes very little time each day to use the tracker & run through the SparkCoach prompts. '

If you sign up, you have to go through the prompts and maybe pick a city before finding the "free" version, but it still exists. I haven't done the much-advertised "noom" app, but I bet it's a similar approach, only this is free.

I've recently had a shot in my bad knee that's really helping me get more active, definitely a big part of "healthy lifestyle" for me. Before the shot (Synvisc and also cortisone), going further than across the room was pretty painful, and I couldn't "push through it" very long until the knee just collapsed. It's starting to give me a little more trouble again, so I suspect the relief was mostly from the cortisone, meaning a knee replacement is in my near future. I'll gladly do it in order to be more active again!

Happy Autumn!!

Jill, have you found the Synvisc helpful? I've had 3 cortisone injections in one of my knees and find it helpful to varying degrees, but there's a limit as to how many times I can do that. The Synvisc is very expensive, not covered by insurance and doesn't work for everyone. But I'm not yet a candidate for knee replacement.

Happy Birthday to both of my grandmothers. One was born in 1874 and the other in 1885 but both on Sept. 25.

Welcome! Jill, good to see you here. Your new program sounds interesting, I hope it works for you. Crossing Fingers!

My back is out again, bulging disc pushing on the nerves down my leg and foot, annoying but I still try and keep moving, yesterday I changed the bed and did 4 loads of laundry, lots of exercise going up and down stairs.

I have done very little in the garden this past summer with the heat and fires, now that it has cooled off I need to get out there and do some pruning. Thinking

Insurance covered the Synvisc for me, guess it's less expensive than knee replacement. Since they did cortisone at the same time, I"ll know in a couple of months... last cortisone injection didn't last much longer than 2 months before the pain started ramping up again. I'm having some pain, but not enough to really limit me, at least not until I get more fit. I did 4 hour stretches at the Frederick Fair last week with only a couple of sitting-down breaks. I do see some swelling again. Knee joint is bone-on-bone on the outer half, bone spurs all over tearing up the cartilage, not much that can really be done to fix it other than replacement. If the Synvisc lets me put it off for a couple years, great, but when it starts limiting my mobility again I'm going under the knife. :-)

If anybody likes the idea of Weight Watchers but doesn't want to do the meetings (or pay the fee), do check out PeopleOne Health. They are marketing their program to corporations, tailored to their employee populations, but they are still including a totally free version (supported by the corporate version). I've only taken off a few pounds so far, but I set my goal at a very modest 1/2 pound a week, so that's fine.

Jill, better to lose the weight slowly, then you will have a better chance of keeping it off.
