I can't say much about the performance of Nell Dean at this point because I only purchased it in 2020. It did bloom this year but I didn't take any measurements to compare to the listed stats. I will say that it bloomed more mid-late for me than midseason. The plant is pollen fertile and I thought the flowers were so lovely that I put the pollen on quite a few of my diploid doubles.

I bought Nell Dean in 2007 and then it died some time between 2015 and 2016. Not sure why it died, but I also lost another daylily that was in that same area during the same time period.

I'm not into doubles much, but I loved this one so much and had a special marker made for it, so I repurchased it from Cheryl's Daylilies in 2018. It was probably 2-3 fans at that time and is now a nice 10 fan clump.

Nell Dean is of the hose-in-hose type of doubles and I love the neat way the petals whorl and seem to lie on top of one another. Here is the AHS description of a hose-in-hose double:

I think it has a great height to bloom ratio, 28" tall with a 6" bloom, and the varying degrees of sunset colors are a treat. One day it may look more pinky-peach, the next day it may look a little more rosy-yellow with a touch of orange.

7/19/2021 - Branching and bud count are both low and it is mostly top-branched. It usually blooms throughout the month of July in my zone 6b. It is registered as reblooming, but I've not seen it. I have not seen rust on it either.

7/9/2021 - the rosy colors really came out on this day.

I have always thought this one is gorgeous. I'd love to hear from anyone who has grown it successfully in zone 8 or 9.
