Hi everyone, what would happen if I plant a hyacinth bulb immediately without chilling it for months?

Hi purpleinopp! Actually Im from Philippines, I just have received my hyacinth bulb from an online seller, and I just wonder what would happen if I plant directly the bulb in a pot without chilling it?

You can try but it might just shrivel away. That is what happened when I tried these. The chill requirement is a real thing. It's strange but some plants do not do well without a cold winter season - colder than where I am. Where you are, it is just tropical with no garden zones, no frost. This is why I asked about your location. I hope you get some blooms. The scent of Hyacinth is so wonderful!

Hi purpleinopp, have you tried germinating hyacinth seeds? Is it really possible?

I have not tried.

You can put the bull in a paper bag and place in refrigerator for 3 weeks for chill requirements. Then plant as usual.

I place mine in a paper bag & chill for 12 weeks. Make sure to NOT put in the same place as fruit (specifically apples).
