Do you have way more of a particular iris then you know what to do with? I'm starting this for the ones who have iris they are looking to give a new home to or have extras and don't want to toss them. Let's post them here for the members who would like them and the two can work out the details.

This is a good thread.
I should have thought to do this myself this past year.

This should include NOIDS? Perhaps if there is a photo as a color, size guide included?

Maybe we could have an admin make this a sticky thread so it stays at the top like the iris farm (the vendor list)

Next July 2022 I will have extras of this NOID. It is a registered cultivar, but I lost the label years ago. I got it in about 1990. I strongly suspect it is Bubbling Over. It has been my most durable and prolific iris. It is wonderfully fragrant. The early blooms look a lot like Mary Frances, but more lavender. The later blooms are more bubble ruffled. It's a beauty.

Ok, Richard, message me me at the beginning of July and We can either arrange a swap, or you can send just postage for the box. We'll work it out.

A request.

If you are going to give away NoID's please don't label them as "I think this is Joy, or I think this is possibly Amazing, etc." Sooner or later someone is going to label their NoID by the name you suggested and it will get out there to the public as an incorrectly named iris. Hybridizers work hard to create and name their iris, so we should be respectful not to put another iris out there under one of their names without knowing for sure it really is theirs.

I label my NOIDS as "NOID (suspected name)?" That way I can remember that I really should obtain a known root of the suspected cultivar to compare with it. I should also add "Pre 1990" to the label because that definitely excludes a whole lot of other cultivars as suspects. Anyone receiving one of my NOIDs should either label it this way, including the question mark and NOID, or just label it as NOID. If you pass it on, request that others do the same.

Note that one person here suggested this NOID might be Mary Frances. I have that one also, and they are definitely not the same, but enough similar to suggest a relationship. And indeed, Bubbling Over is a child of Mary Frances. And so my labeling suggests that possibility, while still showing it as an NOID. I ask that anyone I share it with respect my doubt by showing NOID and a question mark on the label. If you pass it on, request that others do the same. Or you can simply label it " Daisy's lavender NOID, pre-1990"

They do look similar. All we can and should do is label them as no ids.

No ids are still beautiful, and do have a name, but we just not sure what they are.

I suggested this posting just for ones who have alot of a peticular increase to help find a home, wether we know the name or is a good.

NoID's are very beautiful and deserve loving gardens. Just don't want people confused that they really are just NoID's. An unexperienced grower may look at a suggested name and say, "yes! it looks like that so I will label it that instead of NoID". Then pass some on to a neighbor under that name and so on and so forth. Nothing wrong with a person sharing a "pink NoID" after all. Smiling

As the "papa" of Bubbling Over, I can variefy it is BO. The Osbornes suggested the name since it was already the name of an Africian Violet and the name was fitting. jjg

Thanks, Joe! I was hoping you'd give us some input! I still would like to verify it by growing a known root of it close by it. Do you still carry it, or know who does?

There is a thread on this forum "Name That NOID" or some similar name. Everyone enjoys posting their NOIDS and others enjoy "guessing."
However, at the end of the day, everyone who posts there understands that any ID is only "best guess" A NOID by any other name is still a NOID.
I don't see any reason not to pass on a "best guess" with a NOID if the person offering the Iris makes it very clear that a "guess" is not a verified name and the "best guess" name should never be passed along as "certified" by the recipient.
