I only have 3 Noids that need to be ID. They were a gift along with my Daylily trade. I would like to see which ones you grow. Anyone growing Payne winners?

Thanks, Evan those are beautiful! I need to add a white and blue one. I may try posting a pic of mine when they bloom. I bet they are older ones and someone could ID them.

Does Silverband have a lighter leaf? Or is it just the camera? Have you ordered from Ensata before?

My iris friends all told me that they have never been successful growing Japanese Iris here but I saw a gorgeous plant at a nursery last summer and decided to give it a try. It was covered with leaves this winter which I removed today and I can see green. Lion King

Teresa, Silverband (Variegata) has variegated leaves. I have purchased from Ensata Gardens, last year and this. They're real pros by all accounts and that's been my experience as well. Polly has a Vendor List of top notch Iris growers as a sticky at the top of the forum.

Anyone who can grow Hosta like you do Paul is the one I'll put my money on. Just remember what Polly said about Miracide.

If Miracid isn't used, would an enriched oak leaf and pine needle compost get the job done?

In my fertilizer stash I found some Osmocote Azalea-Camellia- Rhododendron Soil Acidifier 9-6-6 with sulfur. I scratched a little around the plant hoping that when the plants needs it it will be available.

Thanks Polly...our soil and water are alkaline here so I think I might try some very dilute Miracid several times during the summer......

Believe me, you won't be able to get it too acidic.

Are yours still buried under snow Polly? I've never used an acid fertilizer for anything since the few times I've tested it was about 6.5. Maybe a once a year application would help?

Sure, it would help. But if your irises look as good as those pics, I don't think I would bother. Probably all it would do would be to increase faster. Yes, we're still under snow. Probably until around the first couple of weeks of April.

I was afraid of trying them also. I don't have a pond or damp place to plant them so I had never tried them, but after getting my noids I planted them near my well. I give them a drink often thru the Spring and summer because of their location. Now I want more because they are so pretty.

JI do quite well in ordinary garden soil. Just keep an eye that they don't dry out.

Faster increase is a darn good incentive. Thanks.

When shopping for a JI I haven't seen in person I now make sure to look at as many photos as possible. Are they affected by climate like sibs?
