I'd listed a pack of my lily cross Caroline Tensen x Salmon Party. I'm just now starting to sort the seeds from the reverse cross and apparently Salmon Party is much more fertile. Whereas 90% of the seeds for CT were useless the opposite is true for SP.

Sooo, if anyone wants some seeds from this cross just reply to this thread and I'll add them to your baggie. I've still got 11 more pods to open & I'm already drowning in seeds! Please take them off my hands!

@MrsBinWY I'll be adding seeds of the reverse cross to the pack you've won.

I believe these are "true" lily (genus Lilium) seeds according to the cultivar names. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Caroline Tensen and Salmon Party are oriental lilies but there could be two daylilies with the same names. The genus needs to be clarified here because germination procedure for daylilies and oriental lilies are very different.

These are true lilies but I can also send people daylily seeds if they want. I have way too many of those too! I never did get around to listing more crosses.

For Oriental lilies, they need 3 months warm, then 3 months cold, then warm again. This is called "delayed hypogeal" germination. I use the baggie method and start them in dampened (not real wet) mix usually around September. This way I don't have to babysit them and worry about them drying out. Then in December I put them in the fridge and remove around March.

I have to admit I have yet to bring an Oriental seedling to bloom, something always happens to them. Asiatic and trumpet lilies are much easier. I just start them around January or February then germination occurs 2-4 weeks later. Since they have to build up a bulb it will be a couple of seasons to see first bloom.

It is too late to start Oriental lily seeds now. They can be stored in the freezer until next September.

Just thought folks might get a kick out of seeing the ridiculous measures we sometimes go to in order to get mature lily seeds in areas with early frosts Hilarious!

I wouldn't mind giving this a shot. Is there a way to bookmark a thread easily so I can reference these true lily germination steps? Still kind of getting used to the site!

At the bottom of the post is a bookmark icon to the right of the acorn. Tap it and it will turn yellow. I believe when you go to your profile there are links to your bookmarks.

Tip: If you are making a lot of bookmarks you will want to use edit to organize them else they are a jumble. Click on the the edit icon for the bookmark you want to edit (little paper and pencil) . I organize by subject, for example every lily related post I will start the title with Lilies. Same with Lighting.
