I left because too many of my seeds aren't named varieties. Most are open pollinated F1 from other gardeners such as beefsteak tomatoes, black cherry tomatoes, etc. Things I collected and consider unique such a bamboo from the gorgeous plant outside my new place are of unknown cultivar.

Getting my seeds together, they are probably not what you are looking for. That is fine. The DND or individual swaps are probably a better fit.

Hope everyone had a great time.

Hi Andi! Look at the new rules - no named varieties mentioned now! So come back in to this swap if it works for you!

@gardenQuilts I second @Maryjoz5 and hope you rejoin the swap. The guidelines for this swap has been revised so that we can enter all those seeds we don't have special names for.

@GardenQuilts...I hope you rejoin. I know sometimes these have made me a little intimidated but a lot of good people willing to share. I think most folks are just happy with some variety and aren't judgmental about varieties, quantities, etc. I'm certainly a novice and appreciate folks' patience with me. I find them fun and hope you can start this new year off with a little fun too!

@gardenquilts I think you would fit in here just fine. I hope you reconsider.

I just purchased a packet of Dahlia seed from one of the biggest breeders in the US, and they have said in the instructions that they all will be crosses from their flower fields and thus be new unnamed varieties.. but that also means I can name them and have my own new cultivars. If the big companies can do it, we certainly can too. Smiling

Thanks for lifting restrictions on this swap!

As a newcomer, I interpreted a "named cultivars" ruling banned my open pollinated, self-saved seeds. Is that correct?

Does this mean seeds of named cultivars are seed catalog varietals, and that participants in a seed swap with such a ruling can only trade either those catalog seeds, or seeds that don't cross?

I can appreciate why this may be a useful rule, but even seed manufacturers goof up. I once purchased an attractive seed packet of Basil, 'purple ruffles'... that produced an equally attractive and delicious, GREEN basil plant, yet, no purple, ruffled leaves as the packet suggested.

@DeerXing
Nothing was ever banned unless it's something illegal. The "rules" (which were copied and pasted by Tom without reading everything initially) were made to encourage people to offer a good variety of seeds. However, newcomers are always encouraged to join even if their initial offerings are meager. Returning swappers usually can and should contribute more. Even so, an unplanned move or natural disaster could set an experienced swapper back, so we try to maintain some flexibility.
We all appreciate the note "OP" in the comments area for each open pollinated offering. That's also a good place to note the year of collection or purchase of each offering. The bottom line is to provide enough information that people can make an informed decision whether or not to take your seeds. Smiling
