Hello, new member form Australia here. Recently I purchased 4 colocasia tubers with minimal information in regard to accurate species name. I have a suspicion it may be C. esculenta 'Tiger Stripe' but seeking confirmation or information otherwise please?
Here's the twist - Apparently the plants origins are Samoa, so this is why I am suspecting that perhaps it is not necessarily 'Tiger Stripe' as per Alan Galloway's discovery, but perhaps another form?
Keen to hear some thoughts on this please and thank you in advance.

Its a bit hard to know...it could potentially also be 'Midori'.

Hi Gina and thanks for your suggestion, but mine has a light light green / yellow piko as opposed to the dark coloured piko of Midori & Lemon lime. Also mine has green and black striped petioles as opposed to Lemon Lime's dark red & white petioles. Interesting contrast though Smiling

I have never actually seen a Tiger Stripe, only photos. Its a very handsome Colo. I grow Midori and Lemon Lime, they are very similar to my eye to each other. I'd like to collect Tiger Stripe next season if I see it for sale locally.

Hi again Gina, well there has only been one store nationwide in Australia where I have seen this plant advertised, but I took a chance with it when I saw the photo of the petiole base and the only name it was given by the seller erroneously was - Samoan black 'Snowball' taro. Rather ironic given it does not snow in Samoa hahaha.

I think that Plant Delights here MAY have it (I have not checked) but its only a matter of time before it gets here LOL. I can wait. I won't pay the high prices + shipping at PD. I am a sucker for these stripey stem Colos.

Perhaps they are just out of stock during Winter. They usually advertise during your Summer from what I've seen. If it is any consolation to you, I had to wait all through Winter here this year before I could get mine, but boy, worth the wait! Smiling Keep it on the top of your wishlist.
