Happy new year everyone! Welcome to the 2022 Butterflies, Moths and Larva thread!

Here's a contribution from my very first black swallowtail. I confess, it was taken years ago, but I had to start the new thread with a picture.

Can't wait to see all of yours!

Photo taken last April of Great Southern White (notice blue tipped antennae) on my Gomphrena 'Fireworks '.
I am blessed to live here in Florida where I get to see so many butterflies in my own backyard - Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Longwing (which is our State butterfly), Giant Swallowtail, Red Admiral, Sulphurs, Atala (which was thought to be extinct from 1937 until 1959 but is now making a great comeback).
Wish I had photos of all of them.

Unfortunately I was ill and missed the deadline for the photo contest. I won't do that next year! Thank Y'all so much for all the compliments. My overall favorite? A pic of a frog in my drainage ditch. Ive dreamed a long time of taking such a pic as this, and many thanks to the I Pads editing section!

It is a great frog picture. The only problem is, it is not a frog, it is a baby Prince!!!! Lynda just needed to 💋 him!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

But seriously Lynda, wonderful images! Absolutely beautiful. I have the seemingly upside down skipper in what appears to be a petunia flower as my favorite but they are all very nice!!

Bill, that pic of the upside skipper was actually a flower from my Blackie sweet potato vine! This is the first year I've grown this variety that it bloomed like crazy. I guess I was doing something right! The skippers went totally nuts over the flowers, I had more skippers in my garden this past summer than I've had in all the years I've lived here. They were also very attracted to the bright lights Cosmos I grew, so that gave me lots of wonderful opportunities to take pics of them. Sometimes I would catch them face on where they almost seemed to be very mad at me for taking their pic! BTW, that sweet potato vine produced viable seed, prof of the skippers adoring attention. I hope to grow my own this spring from seed. The seeds are very similar to morning glory seeds, so will probably need to be soaked before planting to insure germination.

Well that's something that I have learned here. Sweet potato vines do flower.
I mean I always suspected that they flowered but I never had one of mine do that. However here, I have seen loads of images of those flowers and they are special plants!
That skipper looks as if he/she is trying to 'merge' with the blossom. Incredible.
