Additional lines of variegation on any leaves, turn plain foliages into festive
Tradescantia 'Nanouk'

Amischotolype sp. This plant related to tradescantia but lot larger in size. sometime confused as a Ginger due to it size and cane growth habit. Leaves aproximately 25cm and plant grow up to 1 metre.

Hi tofitropic

This is a very unusual winter. Climate change and La Niña have both added up to crazy weather in the US as well as other parts across the globe.

Keep posting your beauties they always bring smiles.🤩

Bea, my son and DIL are in Arkansas visiting friends for a week, he sent me pictures of snow this morning. Meanwhile here in Central FL it is mid 80's, the whole month of December was hotter than November.

Here's some striped plants for you from my garden...
Calathea zebrina roseopicta and orbifolia, even a Cryptanthus in the background

I like to record what is blooming or showing color in the garden each year on New Years Day. Here are some that show some variegation from yesterday.

@sunkissed Sherri, I am a big fan of Calathea clade, although many are not happy in my garden, Those C orbifolia is stunning, unfortunately that one was never happy on my highland garden.
@ardesia Ti plant is one of my first love of garden plants, but I cant find much variety here at my place, wonder why..
We are lacking of Ti plants hybridizer in my part of the world. Those two Cordyline is stunning

Thank you, the last one is a noid I picked up locally it is probably 'Hawaiian Flag.' The big Willii's Gold is from a piece I brought back from Hawaii in 2009. Tofi , I have trouble keeping some alive also. This is another piece of one I brought back in 2009 but it has always struggled, it is Keeley's Gold.

ThIs was the parent plant at my last home.
Thumb of 2022-01-02/ardesia/17b921

For some reason the different varieties are difficult to find here also. It is strange because they do very well even in N. FL where they may freeze but promptly come back from the roots.

Bea this is strange weather for sure but better to have snow than fires. A close friend whose home is just 3 miles east of the edge of the Marshall fire was so excited yesterday when it finally began to snow.

Hi Alice,
Wow Hurray! beautiful combo the oxalis is outstanding with the orange . I tip my hat to you.
Yes a big relief with snow fall in Colorado. It's hard to imagine the drought is so bad. I lived in Colorado over 20 years and the winters were full of snow. The climate change and other weather factors are very scary.
Even here in western Oregon we have experienced a terrible drought. And had to flee my home due to seasonal wild fires. I hope that was the last time.

Sending peace , health and happiness for 2022 to all .

Variegated plants are what adds interest in any garden. Collections are what brigs gardeners together.
Keep them coming.. Hurray!

This Curculigo latifolia has to much white, bit worrysome
Thumb of 2022-01-05/tofitropic/fe3344
Another curculigo, unknown species, smaller and more compact
Thumb of 2022-01-05/tofitropic/0f142a
Same species as the above but creamy yellowish variegation
Thumb of 2022-01-05/tofitropic/6a23e7
Different species, it has bands of silvery marking at the periphery. We call this Curculigo metallica. Not a chimeric mutant

Metallica band.. Ah the gold old days...
A fun additional info, the Underside of that C 'Metallica'. is dark purple. The one in the picture is Sumatra origin, it can grow larger, the C 'Metallica' from Borneo and other island usually smaller
The fruit contains curculin, a protein that modifies taste perception, most anything eaten soon after mounching it will taste sweet. Similar to miraculin from Syncephalum dulcificum, but in Syncephalum it only change sour substance. In curculin, it affect various types of substance

The purple under side of leaves are there to hold the sunshine in dark under story environments.
They are equipped to live in very shady areas.

I have a few of them as indoor plants . They have very nice patterns on leaves and easy care. Lovey dubby

The winters in my zone are dark and these plants don't require any additional lighting thru the winter months as long as they remain in a warm setting . I tip my hat to you.
