Hey guys so October 21 is when I planted these cloves. A couple days ago I noticed moles had gotten around the chicken wire under the planter and had disturbed them and even ate some of the cloves, so I had to transplant them to a secure box.

I'm worried if they'll be ok or not, as I have never transplanted garlic before, especially not after it's been rooting so long in one spot.

It's center foliage has perked up since replanting but I am sooo afraid I could lose the entire crop due to shock.

I know all I can do is wait. Has anyone had experience with having to do an emergency transplant?!

Moles don't eat garlic. Maybe gophers or voles?

I don't know how your garlic will fare. I wish you had asked your question in the original thread though so people could see the history behind it.

I'm pretty sure it's moles, as my dog has dug up one before and it is definitely a mole.

I think It perhaps ate a clove out of curiosity because apparently they eat bugs only.

Voles will sometimes use mole tunnels.
The moles themselves would have no interest in garlic.

Moles are carnivores. They don't eat garlic.

Unless they have developed a taste for worms, grubs, insects in a creamy garlic sauce, you have voles or a gopher of some type.
If your damage was underground, that just screams voles.

Well we must have both, because we have a ton of above ground damage and hilling of dirt, but something for sure ate some garlic. It's so frustrating. Anyways.. I hope the garlic can adapt to its new location.

It seems deer and voles and moles are obsessed with ruining my garden

The above ground damage that moles make are from tunnels near the surface where they push up the still intact soil surface as they tunnel, resulting in long, 1-3 inch high ridges, for as far as the tunnel goes.

Yes, you must have both, because moles don't make hills of dirt.

When I re did a large portion of the garden this past September, I dug up a lot of small (half inch diameter) single garlic bulbs. Some had no roots, some had well developed roots and quarter inch green sprouts. I planted them up to use and give a way for garlic greens. Once they received adequate water, there was no significant difference in above ground growth. If anything different was happening underground, I could not say.

Animals treat our garden like a salad bar. Not much can be done. I just try to limit the damage and eat as fast as I can!! Hilarious!

LOL Smiling Well that is what it is. We just want it all for ourselves! (Not that there is anything wrong with that...)
