You are so lucky to see icicles. OK so I don't like winter but there are beautiful benefits like snow drifts, icicles and individual snow flakes and jack frost paintings on the windows. Remember watching the jack frost leaves on my bedroom window as a kid and then breathing on the glass to make a hole through which to see the fresh snow fall.
And then there was freezing fog coating all the trees in white crystals.

OK, so now I snapped out of it and back to blue hawaiian skies. Hurray! Hurray!

With climate change, we rarely have "real winter" here anymore. And I grew up in the western Pennsylvania mountains where winters were very hard (think the landscape of Wales, but much colder). I miss the deep snows and cold starry nights. A few nights ago, I stepped outside after dark to close up the hens. Someone in my neighborhood must have a coal burning stove or fireplace and the smell of coal smoke took me right back to my childhood home in Johnstown, PA where at that time everybody had a coal-fired furnace. Coal smoke, air so cold it freezes your nose, and the starry sky...it was magical. Closed my eyes and was 11 years old again, shoveling out the drive with my brother.
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."
