APS description of Japanese Form:
Diagnostic of Japanese flower form are the staminodes. These are abortive or transformed stamens in which their origin is still recognizable. Edges of the staminodes are thickened and often contain viable pollen, but it is encased in tissue and not otherwise available. The original peonies of this form were imported from Japan where the lack of pollen drop was a wanted feature.

APS description of Anemone Form:
Stamen transformation in the anemone form has progressed toward petal characteristics to the point where all visible evidence of stamen origin, except for yellow color, has disappeared. These structures are termed petalodes, being the transitional form between staminodes and inner petals. In some kinds these petalodes are very narrow, and yellow, giving contrast comparable to that of the Japanese form flower. On others the petalodes will be larger. As size is further increased, the transformed segments become longer, wider, and take on the texture and color of the guard petals, leading to the Bomb flower form.

I don't have many blooms in these 2 forms. The few that I have are Japanese Form and posted here:

Karen, your NOID looks like White Cap, doesn't it? I have a few of these forms but to me, it is difficult to tell them apart.

I am loving all you guy's Japanese and anemone blooms, particularly the red ones! The red petals contrasting with the deep yellow staminodes are so pretty. I also like Dragon's Nest, Prairie Afire, and Golly. They are all beautiful! Do Tell always looks so photogenic. Shaylors Sunburst and Bowl of Beauty are very nice too.

Valerie and Anya, you have a great collection of Japanese Form blooms!
Valerie, many of the blooms that you posted above are ones that I have never heard or seen before. This is such a treat!

Anya, so glad that you like the Series. I am enjoying the photos so much and learning about the various forms as well. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Thanks for posting White Cap, Socal! Looking at your pic, I am not sure if my Noid is White Cap. Anya, at first I thought that my NOID is White Cap too. Though the Noid's petals color is more magenta than pink so it maybe something else. Someone had mentioned that it maybe Santa Fe. It is very fragrant.

Karen, I love Nellie Saylor! Gay Paree is such a great bloomer, too. Thanks again for starting this series. It's fun to dig around in last year's photos.

Gorgeous photos, SoCal.

Frank I love Shaylor's Sunburst.

Anya, your Do Tell is perfect. The center is so vibrant. Sword Dance is another really good performer.

Val, thanks for sharing all those rare peonies. Your Prairie Afire is the best photo I have ever seen of that variety. And the Magic Orb looks to be made out of wax. Love them all.
Hurray! Hurray!

I also don't know many peonies in this thread, especially from Valery. It is so nice!

Karen, White Cap is "dark pink, almost red" according to description. It is hard to tell from the photo so look again next season and compare with Gay Paree which is extremely similar to Santa Fe. White Cap should be tall and can be fragrant (some descriptions say this). Gay Paree is also tall but pink, I have not found how tall is Santa Fe. If your NOID is not White Cap I would really like to know what it is Shrug!
Edited: Tom Cat looks similar and fragrant but is very short (26").

Hiyamakki, that Peach Fluff came from Gilbert Wild way back in the 90's. I've moved it a couple of times and seems to be happier now. It does require support as the stems are spindly. But the weird flowers are worth it. The blooms look a little different every year!

Caroline your Primevere looks nice and full.
