Asking because it tends to get moldy when not used all at once, so I tried doing that somehow..
Anybody do or try this?

To use to eat, or to grow?
I've read you can freeze them for eating and grate them later. Not for growing tho
Plant it and they will come.

For eating. And no, its not something im willing to freeze. Im talking about buying some from the store, breaking off a piece to consume, and searing the wound on the rest. Kind of what youd do on a cactus to callous, except a bit more...destructive...

So have you tried it yet?

I would think using a hot paraffin wax to dip it in for sealing would be better.

First one seems promising(cut). Week old no mold . Second one...eh...broken off.

a quick dip in very hot water to kill any lingering micro critters? Or dip in dilute bleach? vinegar? Thinking
Plant it and they will come.

Vinegar contains fungus anyway so thats a no-no. The other two... thats a lot more dangerous than searing it. I did it with a lighter, and with on a electrical stove for the second, followed by a lighter.

What have you discovered since your last post? I also get frustrated with this. A little bit of ginger root packs a lot of flavor. I would make ginger-something about weekly, but DH is not very enthusiastic about ginger flavor so I try to use it more rarely. I really love ginger flavored jasmine rice.

I plant my leftovers but I haven't harvested anything yet. Just a 3 ft tall multi trunk ginger on the kitchen counter

Fun, good luck! I put some in the ground in 2021 and it was a nice patch in '22. I hope the cold didn't kill it. It's normal for it to go dormant, so I won't know for a few months.

Just viewed a show this A.M. and a suggestion was to place the whole ginger root in the freezer and just take it out and grate off as much as needed and then put the root back in the freezer till next time. She said the ginger grates better when frozen.
