All I know is that it is some sort of palm. Others will be along with useful information.

Hi, thanks, yeah that's what I figured. I was wondering if someone could be more specific?

Cat Palms and Parlor Palms look very much the same but Cat palms are clumpers while Parlor Palms stay single stems.

It's Chamaedorea elegans (Parlor Palm), Cat palms are a deeper, darker green.
Regarding discoloring,

When did it first appear?
What is it treatment regarding watering and lighting?

Check the underside of the leaves, I suspect it may have spider mites in addition to any cultural factors.

Agree, it may have spider mites. Does the pot have a drain hole? Has it gotten too dry? Experienced near or below freezing temps?

As long as the new leaf is forming and it's just finishing blooming, it can't be too unhappy. But it is a little unusual for all of the older leaves to be browning at once. Usually that happens one at a time, in order from the bottom, with several green leaves above the oldest, browning leaf.

It's normal for the inflorescences to shrivel up after a short time, a couple of months or so. I would remove the dead leaves at the bottom, and cut off the non-green leaflets. That would instantly improve the appearance.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I will check for mites when I am back with the plant.

The person that gave me this plant had a mother plant before hand. He divided it and put it into a large green plastic pot with drain holes.

Would watering it every other day be a bad thing? I usually do it once or twice a week.
By the way, it has two new shoots, one is green, the other new shoot hasn't even opened yet and it's already turning brown.

Thanks

Chamaedorea elegans not a clumping palm (other species of Chamaedorea are clumping), they are essentially solitary, but sold as multiples. So, there really was no "mother" plant, individual plants were taken out in a group. Watering every other day, in mid February, in Canada, sounds excessive. Is it getting any good filter bright light or sun? These are somewhat prone to spider mites inside, but should be manageable. Good luck!

It can be hard to tell the difference because both kinds are usually sold as pots of multiple seedlings.

Hi all, I think the issue was underwatering. It seems to be doing better since I've started watering it daily. I didn't find any pests.
