Sorry, I missed this thread when it was posted.

I have had Greensleeves in the gardens for a number of years now, and I absolutely love it. It's noted for 32" but it must like the cold climate because here in my zone 3, it gets a bit taller ... more like 36" tall.

It's an older daylily (1968), so the bud count does not compare to a lot of the newer varieties available today; despite that, it just has this pristine elegance when it's blooming that pulls your eye to it. And, while not registered as a bitone or bicolour, the sepals and petals are slightly different colours ... as though someone waved a wand over it and muted all the shades.

There's a slight ruffle along the petals and a gentle recurving / reflex to both petals and sepals ... but it holds up very well in the sun and does not wash out over the course of the day. If anything, that pale pink becomes slightly more pronounced. It also has sturdy scapes that hold the blooms above the foliage and, while they may sway in the wind, they don't topple over.

Never had any issues with rust and it blooms reliably every year. I would absolutely recommend it, even if you just want a gentle contrast to something with a busy pattern.

Nice review, Dianne. Some daylilies don't need a lot of bells and whistles to stand out in the garden and this one sounds like a definite keeper Smiling

It could be that Dianne originates elsewhere, and has learned a different kind of English (where they put the 'u' in color) to many here. I doubt Australia, leaving Canada or the UK as possibles among some other potential options.

No such claims. Dianne is a hick from the Adirondack Mts. who grew up in the middle of backwoods nowhere, following in the footsteps of Adirondack ancestors who've left their tracks through the forests here for 200 years ... a heritage back to the early 1820s. And some long roots to French-Canada back to the early 1600s.

But I do love the ins and outs of the English language and my favourite authors fall more to Shakepeare, Wordsworth, Frost, Dickinson, Poe... I love to read. And garden. Lovey dubby

Well, sad for the guy who is singing, as he was ditched by his girlfriend. Green Sleeves was a pejorative term in the Rennaissance, referring to a cheating lover.
