I'm in the San Diego county area. Zone 10a.

Need tips on squash growing success in my area. I like yellow and green zucchini type. What varieties and when do I plant to get the best harvest? I garden in Smart Pots because my yard is concrete (by previous owner). Could use some guidance. Powdery Mildew is the least of my problems. I get blossoms. Male flowers first, they wither, then Female flowers, but no male flowers available to pollinate. A vicious cycle. Any way to manually pollinate without the male flower? Or to encourage more concurrent flowering?

What I would do is plant the seeds at different times, so the flowers come at different times, or, when you purchase the young plants, get a mix of very small ones and big ones. All kinds of different sizes. You may be able to get male flowers still blossoming while the female flowers bloom. And then manually pollinate them. I hope it will work—-
