Twenty odd years ago, dearly departed Esther invited her friends to a plant exchange in her garden. Then Ellen, her next door neighbor, extended the invitation to friends on the garden web. The event has evolved and expanded to Chicagoland gardeners.

Through the years, gardens, new friends and relationships have grown and the circle of like-minded people has widened. We would like to continue to share the fun and joy of gardening for as long as possible.
Happy gardening, everyone!

Hello Mone,

Thank you Smiling I look forward to meeting everyone again & under better circumstances this time Hurray!

Yes, please. Anything for shade would be appreciated. I planted some daffodils & a few hostas in the shady areas the year before last. And last year planted a couple of Mayapples & wild ginger (don't know if those survived the winter or not yet) but other than that, there is just grass, trees, & mud back there. Thank you so much! Mone,

The daffodils do get some sun & seem to be doing great as they have multiplied since I planted them there the year before last Smiling

Down south, I had 4 colors of creeping phlox in my garden that I had transplanted from small clumps. They are some of the plants that I miss most from my garden which is why they are at the top of my wish list.

I do appreciate the plants you are setting aside for me, however, I can only be there on the day of the swap as I live in Ingleside which is 45 miles away from the swap & I don't have a vehicle & have made arrangements for a ride to the swap as I did last year.

🌢️ Hi, everyone, and happy spring!

Glad to see this swap starting up. Now I have to remember all the budding gardeners I have mentioned it to and invite them. I've got a bunch of sprouts under lights and still starting from seed, so will post a list down the line.

It looks like all my exchanges will have to be pre-swap pickups bcse my community bike ride is 12-4 on swap day. 🌻

Hi! I just moved to Evanston and have a full sun double wide lot that's just lawn grass. I'm looking for full sun plants of all types, so long as it's not aggressive or a bush/tree. I hope to set up spaces for different types of gardens: native plants, ornamental perennials, edibles, rain garden, arid plants, etc. I've been dreaming of being able to do this for years!

I don't have a car, so I'd need to either have the plant/item dropped off or I can pick it up at the swap. I live near the swap site, so I should be able to come early to help set up.

ISO:
- Anything garden related. Hoses, accessories for rain barrels, raised bed materials, garden rake, etc, please.
- Uncommon succulents, either as houseplants or outdoors
- Cold hardy sedum, yucca, sempervivum and other succulents for planting outside
- Plants and materials that are good for full sun rain gardens
- Full sun native plants that are under 3ft tall
- Pumice, chunky perlite, turface, crushed granite, and other materials good for potting up succulents
- Hyacinth
- Red or Pink Bleeding Hearts
- Fuchsia

Offer
- Crassula ovata (Jade plant) cuttings
- String of Hearts cuttings
- Giant evergreen bush. Maybe a Yew? Healthy and mature. I didn't see any flowers or berries. If you're interested in digging it up or even if you just want branches, please let me know.

Thank you!

Coreopsis lanceolata
Drumstick Allium seedlings
Geranium 'New Hampshire Purple'
Monarda - red
Phlox paniculata - garden phlox
Rudbeckia fulgida
Rudbeckia triloba
Sedum kamchaticum

Would it be ok for me to create a Facebook event page for the swap? This would allow people to easily share the event on Facebook. I would use the flier that's in the initial thread post. No worries if this isn't allowed.

Hi VerdantApt,
So glad to hear from you.
Spreading the news on FB or any other means and helping with setting up the swap site will be greatly appreciated. The more, the merrier. Thank You! Thank You!

Yes to all the plants you requested.
However, Rudbeckia triloba and Allium aflatunense are over 3 ft. tall. Would you still want them?

Hi pitimpinai,

How tall does the Rudbeckia triloba get? It's a native plant, correct? If yes, I'd still like it, please.

May I ask how long Allium aflatunense stays in bloom for? A quick Google search says the blooms only last "2-3 weeks in May". If that's accurate, I'll pass on the Allium aflatunense.
