The Aechmea Burgundy's that are mounted are getting their flower show together now.

The inground growing plants show no signs of flowering at this time.

That's a lot of blooms Scott, mine has still never bloomed, I think it's been three years since I've had it mounted in a palm tree. I'll have to check it, I can't see it unless I walk into the back corner behind the tree, but I did check it a few weeks ago.

The storms today blew one entire group of the large mounted groups off of the palm trunk. 😕

Wow, that is devastating Scott, we had a windy day but nothing like you and Sherri experienced.

Received a little over an inch of rain with the storms. The clump I estimate weighed around 50lbs. I dragged it to a mulch area to finish its flowering stint as there's no way to get it back in the palm.

Love those little dabs of pink on the top of the cone on that one. I wonder would those be considered the petals or the fruit?

Alice here is a later photo showing yellow petals on the inflorescence, which eventually turn black, maybe a seed? The dabs of pink are just hints of color towards the top of the cone, it doesn't get a crown, just more petals continue to the top, and then the whole cone turns black as it slowly dies.

Hmmm spaths maybe? I can't find anything about parts of a aechmea flower I guess because there are so many different ones.

Saw this Tillandsia usneoides covered tree at the Alpine Groves Park in Switzerland (FL) yesterday and thought it was cool.

Alice, that is really pretty back lit by the sun, I didn't even know there was a Switzerland, FL.

This Neoregelia is 'Gold Medal', I've had this particular Neo for five years, it has given many new offsets. The coloring pattern has changed over the years.

Another NOID Neoregelia, these are two offsets now blooming from the mother plant, which I cut off a few months back since she was getting ugly.

Pretty ones for sure. It is always difficult for me to cut off the mother plant because I know it could continue to produce to pups but there comes a point when.......
I have started just dumping the old mamas behind a shrub and if they want to make more babies more power to them and more plants for me.

The Lubbers are horrible here this year. The Nymphs I have killed by the dozens.
They seem to have a appetite for my favorite Cordylines, Crotons and my Bromeliads.

Ouch, they go after bromeliads too? That is scary.
