continuing my dreams, any chance to eventually have an export to spreadsheet option on either the database or our plant lists? Whistling

Probably not out of the database, no.

As for the plant list, maybe. I'll have to think on that a bit.

In the meantime, isn't it possible to do this through your browser? Can't you pull up the list and copy the whole thing into the spreadsheet? I've never tried it but it seems reasonable.

Well, it's possible for me to make a spreadsheet export tool but it's not a simple thing to put together, so I'd want to know that quite a few people would really want it before I spent the time making it. Smiling

Yup, that's why it makes sense to start a thread to discuss it, to see if lots of people would be interested. I kind of like the idea because I don't have a lot of luck exporting things to spreadsheets. They always seem to need a LOT of editing after pasting the data in.

Dave,

I would love to be able to print the plant lists without the thumbnail pictures???

Is that a possibility -- I want to take a list with me when I shop of just the ones I currently "Want" by genus

Too specific? Just a single sort and print without the pictures would be nice.

Where is that begging emoticon when I need it.

I also like the idea of being able to do that.

I would really like to export my plant list to .csv or .xls

Actually, I would need to print al the names of my plants to create "Paper tags" that will be plastified and put in the garden.

I would need then to have a file with the name of the cultivar, its hybridizer and the year of creation.

Is this doable ?

That's not doable, sorry. The system does not have an export facility like that and I don't know when I could add it.

OK I understand.

So maybe you can do a parametrable personal plant list so each user can add or remove the field he needs.
For example, I don't need the "status" field but I would need the "hybridizer" field.

At this time I'm pretty sure the system doesn't support this. The hybridizer field lives under the database and isn't part of your personal plant list.

Typically when I want to export something, it is a seed swap list, but I could see using it on "my plant list" if I spent a lot more time updating "my plant list".

I usually have to do some tweaking after I copy-paste from any web site into a Word doc or Word table.
For other websites, I use search-and-replace to add commas or tabs.
A manually-created file like that can then be imported into a spreadsheet, usually as a CSV.

But when it is inconvenient to import and export from a site, I just don't use that inconvenient website as a way to store information that I want to be able to recover and manipulate. While I'm working full-time, data entry and recovery has to be very easy or I won't spend time. After retirement may be a different story.

Seed swaps here are the only area where my motivation is great enough to motivate me to do the manual conversions, and I think the last time I tried, the "printer-friendly" version of some swap screens made the manual steps easy enough for some purposes. But I decided not to use the ATP database / seed list feature as my "inventory control system".
