Megatron is a fine plant here in my zone 6/7 garden in SW VA. It has taken abuse ( I've moved and divided it several times) and seems to take it all in stride. Some of Jamie's diploids no longer grow here because they have somewhat weak scapes. But these scapes are sturdy, blooms large, imposing, and all in all, a fine plant.

Sometimes, the blooms do this, OMG!

I believe it's the parent of Jamie's SSM winner, Heavenly United We Stand, the one he's called his best registration . ( publicly, at least twice that I heard! )

Large bloom, good height, and big green throat. The color is more towards cherry red than some other Gossard reds. Not surprisingly, afternoon sun will affect hue.

I just added this one a couple years ago. It has added on multiple fans. Strong scapes, not a flopper. Blooms are large, just a good plant all around.

Big beautiful blooms on tall scapes and is a great plant here. I love it.

Megatron is the reason I like daylilies. If I could only have 1 daylily, it may possibly be this one. I like big blooms. I like high contrast.
Megatron draws in your eye from a distance and will not let you go until you say "wow".

Obtained DF Fall 2020 (I think). Chopped DF into 2xSF. Both gave scapes and some blooms in 2021. Used the pollen in some crosses with some success. The Megatron pods aborted on the most part aside from a couple. But it was year 1 so allowances have to be made. This spring one came back as 2 fans and the other I thought was dead, but did emerge a few weeks later (as a single fan again). Hurray!

Furthermore, if you are not into taking out a second mortgage to pay for Heavenly New Frontiers, Gossard now also lists Megatron as a pentaploid on his website (see the flow cytometry image near the bottom of the page):

If you do not already have Heavenly United We Stand, this is a good alternative.

Edited to add: I am also a fan of Transformers since the 80's and am glad Gossard keeps naming daylilies along this theme (even in 2022 he has a Cybertron release). My other fave Transformer daylily is Cliffjumper.

Although we missed an opportunity as today is Star Wars day (may the fourth be with you) - might have been cooler to have a Star Wars themed daylily.

Megatron was bought in 2017, very noticeable in the garden when in bloom. It has not reached it's full height here and the bud count is only at 6 here. It may be location. I moved it last fall where it won't have to compete with the ash tree. Hopefully that will make an improvement this year. Beautiful in bloom, I have never been able to set a pod on it but again it may be location.
