I searched and couldn't find a topic with this title. I post on a couple of other gardening forums and this is the most popular thread on both. There are "general gardening threads" but this one is more specific.

So if no one minds, I'll start one on here. Feel free to add anything you think might interest other contributors.

Today, I just did a bit of pruning of unwanted suckers on the wisterias. The one over the French windows is beginning to look a bit tatty. I may prune off a lot of the dying blossom next week.

These ones just needed the wayward new growth on the top tying down to make it grow level, or pruning off if it will only grow upwards.
It's the best it will look. It's not as uniform as I'd like it, but, "that's nature for you."

I scrubbed out the fountain, checked the pump filter and refilled it with fresh water.

I cleaned our two bird baths. They get really messy as there's a lot of birds in our garden. But it's not a big job. They both have big green plastic saucers in them. So it's easy to take them out and scrub them under the tap.

Mowed the lawn, as no edging is needed it takes less than fifteen minutes.

Dug a bit of grass out of the rockery. Why does grass often grow where you don't want it, rather than where you do?

Drove down to our rural cabin property and planted out a pear tree, a Fuji apple tree, a fig tree and 3 PawPaw trees. Also a toothache tree. While doing so, I saw that my young Desert Willow tree, that I thought was going to die for sure after the horrible Texas winter storm in Feb. 2021, has turned around and is actually blooming once again! I'm so pleased! The blooms smell heavenly!

Covered a raised bed with mulch fabric and sifted and raked smooth another raised bed. They most likely will be planted with bush beans and pickling cucumbers.

- Put some of my Dahlias into large pots for my patio (have two left to upgrade), as well as a small Hibiscus.

- Added seeds to my carrot pot. Also got a variety of other seeds started: chocolate cherry tomatoes, sunrise bumblebee tomatoes, ground cherries, lemon cucumbers, zucchini, dumpling squash and eclipse squash. Some of these are a bit early for my area, but it's been toasty outside the last while, so I figured it was worth a shot. Tried setting up the trays outside this year as well. Worst case scenario, I have pleeeenty more seeds.

- Added some extra birdfeeders. One by the patio, and another within view of the window Ripley (my Russian Blue kitty) likes to hang out in. She's been watching the cardinals that are nesting near there. Thought she might like watching for feeder visitors. She has little pinwheels outside the window as well. Hilarious!

Just before the rains last evening I planted cosmos seeds-Xanthos, Rubestrum and Kiiro and the morning glory seeds that had sprouted. Then I let Mother Nature water for me. Still working on the solar fountains in the bird baths.

Not a lot really, other than feed the birds and the squirrels and clear up after the hedgehog. He really leaves his feeding station in a right mess every night.

I did tie up a few more clematis. Some are already flowering. The named ones are new this year.

We've had these three all the same variety, for about ten years.

We've nearly a dozen more yet to flower. They will be welcome, as once the wisterias, azaleas and rhodos have flowered, we're just left with the roses for colour. (c'ept green!)

I avoided clearing up the fallen wisteria blossom from the pergola over the French windows. Later this week I'll get up there and prune it all off as I do every year. Then vac it all up.

I did spend some time messing with my jukeboxes in our summerhouse. I recorded this to post on an audio/jukebox message board.

Didn't do nearly as much as I wanted to today. Wasn't feeling well, so I didn't have a lot of energy.

- Started a pot of scallions. Put quite a few bulbs in it, but I figure I use them frequently, so they'll probably be eaten fast enough to keep up with.

- Put together two potato planters. Planted a variety of fingerling potato, and some larger varieties. I also ran out and bought a 102L storage tote that I'm going to drill holes into for more potatoes. I use a lot of potatoes in my cooking, so I'm hoping to get a decent enough harvest to store and use after the growing season. Hoping to plant some Yukon Golds tomorrow. My intention is for today's two planters to be used to grow smaller sized potatoes that I can harvest throughout the season (they have a second container inside that I can lift out to harvest potatoes without actually digging). The 102L tote will be left to grow larger potatoes for later harvest. Then I can just tip it out onto a tarp and gather them all. Almost wondering if I should have gotten two of the totes. I have a lot of extra seed potatoes...
Unfortunately my ground soil isn't suitable for root crops. Otherwise I'd just farm a few rows of them.

- Relocated my chives. I've had chives growing in a big trough for ages. I don't even entirely know why I have them growing in something so large, as I really only use chives on potatoes. But whatever. Have an abundance if I ever need them. I relocated the trough today, and I think it looks better where it is now. I put a rack in it's old place for smaller potted plants.

I mostly garden in containers on my patio so I watered today and noted what I want to do this weekend when it cools down from 95 today to low 80s. I deadheaded the Drift roses in my small front bed on Tuesday and I could feel the heat getting to me so I had to stop and come in. The early mornings are about the only time I can work outside once it gets 90 or above here in Texas. Be careful out there if you live in a hot climate!

Well... The stupid squirrels already destroyed my onion pot... So I think either today or tomorrow, I'm going to go buy chicken wire and cage all my potted food crops. Cause they're driving me nuts. I can't keep up. As fast as I plant anything they destroy it.

Only animal on earth that I legitimately hate... Glare

SQUIRRELS love the smell of freshly turned soil. That's why they're pesky and destructive in the spring-everybody's planting and digging bringing that earthy aroma out. It just invites them to dig and be destructive. Grumbling

Chicken wire is a must to protect my young plants from stray cats, squirrels, neighbor's dogs, birds. It is ugly at the beginning but at least I can sleep at night. I just planted 3 pots of rue near my garden which has a strong scent these animals hate. I'm hoping it'll work.

I fed my newly set up worm 'farm' for the first time. They were wiggling around and ready to chow down. Smiling My plan is to eventually divide this population into TWO hotels. One will eventually be going down to my rural cabin property for my fruit trees and veggie garden. The worm farm I hope to get set up here in the city will be for my flowers and shrubs. Can't beat free, rich, non-burning fertilizer. Smiling

Riley, I love your Wisterias. Lovey dubby They are gorgeous. Thanks for starting this thread although it is a lot like the one that Bob mentioned. I post on that one also.

Gina, the plant get together sounded like a great time. I'm getting together today for lunch with some ladies from the club I belong to. Not many of them are gardeners, thou. I love your bee watering station, Gina. Lovey dubby

Yesterday was a slack day for me. DH said "It's Sunday. Take a day off." So I did. I hope to get a few things done this morning before the luncheon and when I get back this afternoon, but I do have a meeting to go to at 5:30 today.
