Hi everyone, I'm new here, but not to daylilies. Smiling

I got this big peachy daylily in a trade nearly 20 years ago, and to this day, I have no idea what it is. Thinking It typically blooms in May, is 36" tall, has a bud count of 14 on one stalk (but less on the others, not sure what the average is), and is approximately 7 inches across. It's my biggest and tallest daylily. I cross pollenated it with 'Mokan Eighty', and it seems to have set pods on both plants, but we'll see. I would really like to put a name to this one, since it's been around so long and is one of my favorites.

can you post more photos please? Also where do you live, zone? Is it ever green or semi evergreen or dormant?
Is it fragrant? or diamond dusted?
Details of the trade? Did the person have it for a long time before you? Did that person pay alot of money or just buy the cheaper things for the time? I used to do trades with a little old lady 20 years ago and I had to ID some things later, but I knew she only ever bought the cheapest she could find, so that obviously eliminated some possibilities for me.

Um, well, let's see, I'll answer what I can...
I live in zone 8b.
I believe it goes it either semi-evergreen or evergreen. I don't recall it ever fully dying back.
It isn't fragrant, and it's not dusted.
I have no recollection of who I got it from, or when I got it. I do believe I had asked the person for a name, and he/she didn't know either. (I had a few of those kinds of trades.) I've had it at least since 2003, so I know it's been around for at least that long.
I have other photos from the past, but I'll have to dig them up.

HTH,
Thanks!

This is a photo of the same daylily back in 2006. I don't remember it ever being this pink, but it could be the difference in cameras and where it was located. I took the newer one in the full sun of the afternoon, and the older one looks like I took it late in the afternoon.

I am thinking I'd look into Reckamp or Wilds. They were popular then, and they did many with those pretty colors like yours.

Do you know where I could find a list for Wilds? I found one for Reckamp, but it was last updated in 2002...

Is that not exactly what you need, if you have had the daylily for 20 years?
A 2002 list would be perfect for you. Hurray!

You can search the daylily database here on NGA for specific hybridizers, or use the American Daylily Society database:

True, but I was just thinking of it in terms of not having any new information added, as the owner said they were researching the hybridizer and looking to possibly add to the list, as in any they may not have found yet.

Thanks! Actually, I had looked at the site through this one, but didn't find this page...I kind of cruised through the menu, but didn't see this. This has been very helpful!

Couldn't be this easy, but Dave, SunriseSide, posted a picture of Ming Porcelain in the May Blooms 2022 thread that looks pretty similar, especially to the third picture up there. It has that radiating yellow from the throat, which is kind of unusual, and a nice green at the bottom of the throat, which also shows up in the third picture.

i agree, and the best thing is to buy a piece of that and grow it along side of it.
Ming Porcelain is/was extrememly popular, it is widely distributed even today and had 94 off spring, so she got around lol There is a good chance it is something common and popular and inexpensive is my guess.

That makes sense as a next step. There are a wide range of looks for this with the pictures on the database. The only to feel good about it is to buy some and see how it looks in your garden next to the one you have.

I looked at both members' photos of 'Ming Porcelain' and looked it up. While the two are very, VERY, similar, I don't think that's it. It's not tall enough. Mine is nearly 36" inches tall with huge flowers.

I dug around in the database last night and found some from Wild that fit the description, but had no photos. I also can't find any other information or any kind of photos of them on the internet. Some of them are such old varieties, they probably are either a) not around anymore, or b) are NOIDs and people don't know what they have (like me! Thumbs up ). I'm beginning to feel inspired to find them and plant them just for the sake of preserving the cultivar.

I also noted that pretty much all Wild's were diploids, while I'm suspecting mine is a tet. If the cross pollination with the ones I know are tets works, then I'll know for sure.

OH, but one of Ming Porcelain's babies is a contender -- 'Classy Cast'. Wow!

It might be worth getting one and planting it next to your plant for comparison. It's still available, I see, and not expensive.

Initially I was strongly reminded of Ming Porcelain by your third photo but not by the first two. I think Classy Cast is a better bet.

I'm going to try to get an early morning photo. It gets so hot here so quickly, the sun starts curling the edges of the flowers by noon. Sighing!
