What is it called? I found a new to me light yellow self iris with this curious projection. It was growing next to Thornbird, which also has a smaller beard extension. If I know what to call it, I can do a bit of detective work.

I just googled this and found out they are called "space age irises"!

Space age iris can have horns or spoons depending on how they look.

They can also have "flounces" which I believe this iris has.

One never knows what Thornbird will produced. I think that it spends the winter plotting.

Lucy! Mine usually has some spoons and some horns.

Plotting indeed! Mine too and the horns alone can have many different shapes.
It always has a lovely fragrance too.
