Unfortunately, potting soil should not be used to plant roses in the ground. It is light weight and very porous to let water flow down and through the holes in pots; thus, moisture evaporates much more quickly from potting soil than regular soil. When planting roses in the ground, consider using bagged garden soil instead (or even bagged top soil), which is very different from potting soil. I suggest mixing it with peat moss and composted manure to improve its texture and aeration.
