I am finding conflicting info online as to the amount of sun this plant likes. I am in zone 5. Does anybody know?

I have all three of mine in mostly shade. I tried one in full sun and it didn't do well at all. Most of my hydrangeas don't get the hot afternoon sun.
Here they are in three different shade beds.

Luis,

Sorry. I just assumed that they had the same problem that I did. I bow to you because you're always here with great advice! I tip my hat to you.
When I got my first one, the light requirement was full sun. The blooms instantly dried up and turned brown and the leaves were bright red or brown. I try to keep all of mine out of the hot afternoon sun.

Oakleaf hydrangeas can grow in dappled sun, full but bright shade, up to morning sun. In areas with mild summers, you can even eek out some afternoon sun as well. They bloom ok in full but bright shade but do best with several hours of morning sun. Mild summers would be something like summers with only highs of 85F, perhaps with a few, unusual, warmer but brief temperature spikes. I have a RS in dappled sun but I need to look it over and see if that area remains dappled sun or has changed to full but bright shade thru the years.
