I wonder how this plant is different from the regular species plants? What makes it a cultivar?

I couldn't find a listing for 'Guatemala' at the Bromeliad Cultivar Registry and don't know what it's parentage might be but someone apparently cultivated it and it sure is a pretty little Tilly!

I have just recently gotten into air plants, and I am rapidly becoming addicted. Prefer the tiny ones, but I do hear those bigger ones calling my name.

I tried a couple of bigger ones that were found in FL but I'm not sure they were in great shape, and I didn't water often enough. Bad combo there.

The one in the pic of this discussion is so cute! I have one, which doesn't have a cultivar name but it's the same species. It lives on the trunk of a small potted tree.


It looks like the leaves on yours are fatter. I was wondering if that might be the cultivar difference.
