Very interesting, that type of repair is new to me. Some of the repaired pieces are exquisite.
Over the years I have seen "married" pieces of furniture. In the early days, it meant something different from todays culture. In those days, a married piece was using two pieces of furniture to make one. That took skill and talent as well. Today it simply means taking a piece of furniture and adding something to give it a different use. Artsy but not quite the same.
Regarding Kintsugi, it brings to mind to old expression I heard when young.... "Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make it Do, or Do Without".
Certainly a lost art these days.
