Got this adorable little plant a few days ago. I've been trolling through searches for Aizoiaceae and Ice plants, but haven't found a match. The nearest I think is Lapidaria Margaretae, but that seems to have leaves that are much chunkier, more rounded than mine. Mine, you can see, has a four-point star-shaped rosette and deep canoe-shaped leaves with sharp tips and those amazing flat upper surfaces. It's about 7.5 cms across and 4.5 cms tall.

Probably a Schwantesia loeschiana. The soil looks too organic, I would recommend getting a more rocky soil.

Thanks for answering CPPgardener and jooshewa. I'll look for both suggestions and see what comes up. Actually never even heard of either ?genus/species? till now, so I'm really curious to do a little digging.

I think my little jewel is indeed a Schwantesia loeschiana. I'm uploading 2 photos to show it repotted into slightly bigger pot and much rougher substrate and also to show it just beginning to split open the top two new leaves. I'd like to mark the ID question solved, but should I be worried about the brownish coloring on one keel edge?

I don't think it would be a Herreanthus (now Conophytum) as they only produce 1 set of leaves every winter.

Hi. Sorry I've been absent a while. Work got in the way. I have been intrigued by the new suggestions that my plant might be Conophytum or Herreanthus. I'd never heard of either so I've been looking at a little info. I can see the similarity but mine is clearly growing a kind of rosette, whereas the herreanthus seems to grow pairs of leaves with a rather thick base joining them. So, I still think mine is a schwantesia loeschiana. It is growing quite well in its new substrate and pot. I'll leave the thread open a while until I feel as sure as possible it's solved. Thanks for the ongoing interest.

No, not squishy, so I'm hopeful it's nothing to worry about. The plant is otherwise so exquisitely perfect, but clearly it has competently handled something that caused a reaction. Smiling
