I bought this around 2 weeks ago. It costed a pretty penny. I read spider plants are hard to kill. I have multiple house plants that look great. What's wrong with it? Not enough light? Water issue? Thanks.

I suspect that pot is holding 1/2" of water. Is the drain hole raised, in the middle?

It is having a difficult time adjusting to your home.
Spider plants make wonderful house plants and they are hard to kill. But you still have to care for them. Have you watered it at all? If so, how much? I keep mine evenly moist and water them every 7-10 days. If they go too dry, leaves can start to die back.
Mine enjoy medium to bright light. Yours being far from a window and high up in the room will not get enough light long term in my opinion. But that is not the problem I see right now.
It's current location will be even be made a bit more difficult come winter time, as heat rises. It may prove to be a little too warm up there.

Thank you, both. It may be holding water. I added some extra holes to the bottom, but sometimes I get some out if I push on the bottom. I'll look at it again.

I have watered it twice. About once a week. I guess I'll have to move it closer to the window. I don't have a choice with height because of my cats.

For that hook, and hanging that close to the ceiling, I would get a heart-leaf Philo or Pothos. Plants + cats is an iffy mix.

I would try watering about half as often. I've thrown these plants on top of a brush pile and they take 6 months, baking in the sun with bare roots, before they even start to shrivel up. (A horrible weed if it gets loose in the ground here, so that's why they periodically get dug up and discarded.)

Without obstruction, the roots look like white carrots, same size and shape as a regular carrot, but white. When they get too crowded in a pot, the foliage will start to show the effects. That always happened to my potted plants every few years, for the decades before I moved and quit having them in pots.

Also sensitive to fluoride. Distilled or rain are worthwhile for this plant, from what I've seen over the years.

Thank you! I using filtered water. Thanks for the plant option! Maybe I am watered too much.....I'll try slowing down and making sure there isn't any water trapped inside. Thanks again!

Happy to relate what I've seen. Hope you also adopt Bill's suggestion to move it closer to the window if you can.

I second Tiffany's suggestion for plants in that location. Spider plants can get very stringy and weak if they don't get good lighting. If you want to say "I have a spider plant" it works; If you want to say "I have a beautiful spider plant" it won't.

I'm lucky.
My cats do not bother my plants.... I did have a spider plant years ago that the cats I had then could access, and they did chew on the leaves.

Can you add hook extensions to lower the plant and keep it high enough the cats can not get to it.
I use these for my hanging baskets in front of the south facing sliding glass door.

A friend had the same problem with her cats bothering her plants. She started feeding the cats lettuce every day and they leave the plants alone.

nature keeps amazing me
The distilled water is a great suggestion When I bought my spidey I was rescuing it from certain death at Walmart. I had to repot because it was to big for the pot it was in. Just compacted roots. To this day it still looks crappy. It went to plant camp on the front porch over the summer and survived the awful heat but it has never made itself "at home". It's spindly and sparse with root tip browning. I think it's the chemicals in my tap water[which I don't drink] that are causing the problems. I gets good sun light and I water only when on the dry side. Been over a year with this plant and I'm starting to wonder...

Brenda, consider age too. Individual rosettes don't stay good looking forever. When I kept this as a potted plant, once in a while I would toss out the old plant and start over with some vigorous young babies.

If you're aiming for more compact plants, significant direct sun can help. In tons of the sun the leaves grow in more of a V shape, folding to protect themselves. Or, if you want an oversize fountain appearance, mostly shade is the key. But it's a fine line because if it's too much shade, the leaves will be weak and get so big that they bend. I'm not a fan of that look but there's no harm in cutting those leaves off.

If it gets direct sun for part of the day you can/should keep it wetter. They suck up a lot of water if they're in really good light.
