Is it ugly, interesting or both?

I have seedlings like that. "Is that anything?", as the old Dave Letterman bit used to go. I'll start out with, it's interesting.

It looks like a color changer toward the end of the day. Is it? Or does it always look that way? It looks like it has white pollen. Do you know if it's fertile? I think a lot of people like that veining, look, and the petals are definitely heavily veined. And it kind of looks like some chevron patterns just beyond the green throat. Are those ever more prominent?

I like the uniqueness in the petals, but I'm not sure I would buy it on its own looks. But if it were fertile and I had something I wanted to cross it with, I might have to have it.

It's a new seedling and I haven't seen many blooms so far. That pollen does look like like it wouldn't be any good. Maybe I'll see if it can make a pod next year.

I probably wouldn't buy it for its looks, either but since it appeared, here I found it very interesting.

Daylilly99, it's interesting and different. What are the rules with the Daylilly Society on registration of new lillies? Is there a test period?

It's a very bizarre coloring/shape/pattern to this daylily. If it grows and blooms well, I see no reason why someone (like me) wouldn't want it.

Sometimes "ugly" can be one of the best flowers.

I really like it -- is it a dip? It has wonderful "bird feather" petals and I love the wavy ruffling! I think you should definitely explore it further. Just sayin'... Whistling Thumbs up

It is definitely unusual. Let's see what happens in 2023 when it should be more robust with another year under its belt.

I agree with the above commentary. Thinking I have seen some plants improve flowers the 2nd year so another year of observation would be good.

If it is the first year it bloomed. Next year should be even better. I think it is interesting. It has a nice fade to the center. Looks large.

I agree with the many good points above, with special note to several from Tim. It does have a resemblance to a colour-changer, and the veining is interesting. In and of itself, I do think it verges more towards the 'ugly' end of the scale but it might have better colour in the next year... And that hint of chevron is enticing.

I also like how vividly the green throat shows off. If the petals have good substance and just a bit better colour, this one might surprise us all. It reminds me of Pigment of Imagination (which I bought) so I would not write it off ... some of us do appreciate the odd glance! Whistling

When I bought Indian Giver, it did not bloom 'true' in my gardens till its third year... I nearly dug it out and tossed, on several occasions. But it was worth the wait.

If I were to go to your garden and gaze at your daylilies in bloom, I would go straight to your seedling first due to how unique/striking it is.

Thank you to all for sharing your feelings about this bloom. I was curious to see how it was received.

I will definitely not be writing it off any time soon, though I would be surprised to think I might ever register it. As to hybridizing with it ... who knows? What to cross it with ... even bigger who knows?

No, there are no rules about a test period or anything much other than the name must be unique, you need a release if it's named after a real person other than a close relative and try not to infringe on anyone's copyright (or don't get caught).

I think that about covers it.

I think also the name is not supposed to be vulgar. However, some recent ones have left me thinking that they do not police that very hard (e.g. Guy Pierce's "Tits up" Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Tits Up')).

Hmmm…I wonder if Tits Up is a reference to the Marvelous Mrs Maisel, whose manager Susie says it every time before she walks out on stage.
