A large shrub/small tree was planted in my yard about ten years ago, but I don't remember what it is. This tree/shrub is getting a bit big, and becoming increasingly sparse each year, so I may want to replace it at some point.
The first three photos were taken this spring. The last photo is from 2014, when it was new.
I sent the photos to my brother and he also suggested blackhaw viburnum. However, I don't think my tree has ever produced any berries. I don't even remember the flower buds opening to full flowers. I could be wrong about that. I'll have to closely watch the tree next spring. The leaves certainly look like viburnum, though, and I know my dad, who planted it, liked viburnums. There is a Korean spice viburnum in the same garden bed.
I just read that viburnums need cross-pollination to produce berries. That would explain why my tree does not.
Yeah, I have a natural.... was growing in the wilderness of brush when I got here... I haven't seen berries on mine either... and... the flowers never amount to much... very short period bloom...
