Hello all and good afternoon,

I hope this email finds you all well, healthy and blessed. This is THE year that I am determined to grow Primula Denticulata from seed. I have tried starting indoors and also in pots outside. Indoors, I would start around March but nothing. Outdoors, I would put seed in various pots and empty patches in the garden beds but again, nothing.

I live south of Denver Colorado in Zone 5a. Please, can anyone advise how I should go about this? I am contemplating adding seeds to various pots throughout the garden next month but perhaps it is too early? I have read that the best time to sow seed outside would be February but then I see other sites advising autumn so I just don't know... which is why I am here.

I wish to thank you all SO kindly in advance and look forward to hearing back.

Sincerely,
Benny

Primrose seeds need light to germinate. You should be pressing them into loose surface soil, gently water the soil and cover with plastic (like Saran wrap) or a plastic dome to keep humidity in. Temps should be no greater than 70F, 55-65F preferred. Lots of light but no direct sun, as this will increase temps under the plastic by 20-50 degrees. Like most primula, denticulata usually does not require a cold treatment, but it might depend on the source of your seed.

Not sure if you have already been doing all this, but it might help.

I'm not familiar with the beautiful Drumstick Primrose (Primula denticulata) and unfortunately, it doesn't grow this far south but I'm sending good thoughts that your attempts this year will be successful!
