Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Blue Racer')

I bought Blue Racer from the LA in April of 2021. It sent up two flowers in August 2021 and nothing since. It hasn't really increased, still only two fans. I'm hoping it does something next year. One of the flowers it did send up was a double which I don't think Blue Racer is, normally.


The other one looked more true to form, if splotchy

I had this plant for a couple years and it was not at all happy here. Only got blooms once, and replaced it with Damn The Torpedoes which was supposed to have similar coloring and has been a reliable bloomer in the last six or eight years (although quite short). The plant did increase with very small fans that didn't grow to maturity in our shorter seasons- but might be better suited to be planted in a protected area where it is not subjected to sub- freezing temps for extended periods. It was a pretty flower, although smaller than I like in my garden. I wanted it initially for the wider, more blunt sepals...

Purchased Blue Racer in 2019 double fan. It stayed as a double fan in 2020 and did not bloom. I thought it may be one that requires time and patience to settle in so I left it alone. 2021 it was still a double fan but it bloomed. This year we have 3 fans and another scape so we had a few more flowers. I think it needs lots of time to settle and probably not ever going to be a large clump. Evergreens don't usually do well here. That being said I do use it's pollen on dormant blooms, not often but I have used it no seedling blooms to show yet.

2022 update. No blooms at all this summer. Still only 2 fans. At least, it didn't contract any rust…

2023 update…still at 2 fans. I got three flowers this summer. They sure are pretty, wish there were more of them.
